Julia Rodina: More than just media literacy. Is education ready for the digital challenges?
Everybode is talking about artificial intelligence at the moment: politicians are discussing AI in election debates, as are security experts, communication and marketing experts, and, of course, everyone who works in the field of education. Education faces greater uncertainty and challenges than simply integrating digital and AI tools into the educational process.
A good place to start would be for schools to ensure that teachers have access to the digital tool they need for their work – this can radically change the way teachers work. Many of them are free or available at a significant discount to schools.
When I meet teachers in my media literacy projects, I see that software is important, but even more important is a colleague who is willing to be a mentor and help them adapt to the new digital world. A real person who helps, doesn't judge, and answers questions. Like ChatGPT, only better.
